Introduction/specifics

As a company-run daycare center, we make a fundamental contribution to helping employees successfully balance family and work through our qualified and reliable child care services. Daycare spots are reserved for employees of the REWE Group. Every child is an active participant in their own development. Each child brings their own strengths, interests, and skills to the table, and it is our job to recognize each child for who they are and support them in their development. To this end, we create an environment in which every child can flourish both individually and within their social group. We take a nuanced view of each child, observe their interests, and—through the design of the environment and activities and opportunities integrated into daily life—create opportunities for skill development and exploration. To help the children develop a sense of self-efficacy, they are actively and participatively involved in shaping their daily routines and in creating their own educational portfolios. Throughout our daily routine at the daycare center, we treat the children with respect and take seriously what they do, show us, or tell us. We are convinced that our mindful approach to each individual child also influences how the children interact with one another and thus serves as a role model.

Rooms

Facilities:
On the ground floor, there are two bright, welcoming, and colorfully decorated group rooms for our children under 3 years old (“Blue Group”) and for children between 2 and 5 years old (“Yellow Group”), which offer plenty of space for age-appropriate play materials. Our children love to play in the building corner, the play kitchen, or the doll corner with mirrors and a dress-up box. The quiet area in each group is also used for reading aloud, resting, or listening to audio stories. The two groups share a washroom with two sinks on a raised platform and two toilets, as well as a diaper-changing room. A staff/guest restroom is also available. The functionally equipped kitchen on the ground floor provides excellent facilities for preparing meals for the children.
On the upper floor, children aged 3 and older until they start school (“Green Group”) have their own area. There is a brightly designed group room with a play mat, a play platform, and a creative area. Next to it is an adjoining room that has been converted into a role-play room. Here, the children can dress up, build forts, or act out everyday scenarios. All rooms are colorful and welcoming. The group has a restroom with two toilets and two sinks, along with a separate changing area. Also located on this floor is the office, which is used for team meetings, parent-teacher conferences, etc., as well as a staff/guest restroom. In the basement, children can independently explore the movement materials during free play in the movement room. In addition, staff members lead targeted activities here, using Hengstenberg and Pikler materials to help children develop their motor skills. This floor also features a large rest and nap area, as well as a creative studio available to all groups.
The spatial design takes into account, to the greatest extent possible, all educational areas for a wide range of age and developmental groups, as well as the necessary safety precautions. The facility’s rooms are regarded as a “third educator.” They are intended to convey a sense of security while also encouraging children to be active. Materials for creative play and exploration are openly displayed and can be supplemented or modified by children and staff as needed. We also strive to maintain a balance between stimulation and calm. The rooms reflect the group’s themes and projects without overwhelming the children with “sensory overload.”

Outdoor Facilities

The small but charming outdoor area extends around the building. There, the children find plenty of opportunities to retreat, run, ride toy vehicles, climb, balance, and explore sand, water, and soil.
In the front section of the nature-oriented outdoor area, there are various fruit bushes and trees, as well as newly planted specimens. The area invites children to explore, experiment, and discover. A wooden climbing structure, with its slide bar and various ways to climb up (including a “Mikado climb”), also encourages plenty of physical activity. Here, children can engage in role-playing games, test their own limits, and actively become aware of and experience themselves. The back garden is designed entirely according to a nature-oriented concept featuring various elements. It includes a stream with an adjacent mud area, a sandbox, a wooden playhouse, a small slide, large boulders, and various green plants. This has created a diverse habitat for insects that invites our children to observe them.
Thanks to the sturdy patio slabs, the area between the front and back gardens offers space for riding tricycles and scooters, as well as for playing tag and running games. In the summer, the patio is perfect for water play in the wading pools. A small herb and vegetable garden there is planted, tended, harvested, and tasted by the children at the daycare center. The harvest—for example, the herbs—is also used in the kitchen to prepare meals.

Basics

Our educational work is based on the North Rhine-Westphalia Child Education Act (KiBiz) and the North Rhine-Westphalia Education Agreement, whose principles are binding for all child care centers in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The goal of our educational work is to enable children to expand and develop their individual abilities. The educational staff at our child care center takes this into account and provides individualized support.

Employee

Qualified staff with a wide range of professional expertise work responsibly, with motivation, and in an innovative manner to provide individualized support for the children.

Qualification

Early childhood educators, childcare workers

Quality Assurance

Ensuring and further developing the quality of our educational work is a central priority for our team. We strive to integrate quality management processes and procedures into our work. This enables us to maintain and further develop the quality standards of our educational work. To this end, we engage in professional dialogue among our staff during team and small-group meetings, where we collectively reflect on processes, rituals, and procedures.

Cooperations

With the consent of the child’s legal guardians, we are happy to collaborate with various external professionals, such as early intervention centers, speech-language pathologists, or doctors.

Teamwork with school

Our families come from all over Cologne and the surrounding area. As a result, the children attend many different elementary schools. For this reason, we do not have a formal partnership with any particular school.

Teamwork with parents

The daycare center is not just a place for children, but for families as well. Building a trusting partnership with families in the areas of education and child-rearing is important to us. That is why we strive to maintain close communication. During regular development meetings, we discuss the children’s progress with their legal guardians, and we are always available to address the families’ concerns in everyday life. We place great importance on treating all families—regardless of family structure, background, or religion—with respect and interest.

Specifics

The conceptual focus is on participation, physical activity, and nature.
