Current information

Introduction/specifics

Our day-care center for children is located in Köln - Porz, on the border of the district Porz - Eil. We are a Catholic day - care center. Thanks to our facility´s good connections to puplic transport, playgrounds, and recreational parks, many activities and excursions are possible.

Rooms

Thanks to the spacious range of rooms (groupromms and additional rooms, a multi - pupose room, changing/nappy room and relaxation room) as well as a large outdoor area, the children have a wide variety of opportunities for play and physical activity.

Outdoor Facilities

We havea large outdoor area with a sandbox, a nest swing, a pirat ship, climbing equipment and an under - three climbing frame with various activities. There is also a mud kitchen. For the older children, we have a climbing frame with different climbing opportunities, a large slide and a rope climbing pyramis.

We have also create a vegetable and fruit garden for the children. There are raised beds that are planted together with children every spring. Blackberry and redcurrant bushed (without thorns), as well as two fruit trees, enrich our garden.

Daily Schedule

The day begins at 07:30 AM. During this time, the children occupy themselves individually with the materials available in a group.

Between 07:30 Am and 08:00 AM, a brief meeting takes place in the group for some of the staff members. The daily routine is discussed and organizational matters, as well as necessary information, are passed on. During this time, the children have the opportunity to use the rooms and play options in the group.

From 08:00 AM, each cild goes to their respective group. All children and staff members meet for the morning circle in their groups, which is why all children should be at the facility by 09:00 AM. In the morning circle, they sing together, and the activities of the day as well as past or upcoming activities are discussed.

Afterwards, the children go to the areas they initally chose. The areas can also be changed multiple times during the morning, so that the children can increasingly shape their daily routine independently according to their interests and needs.

During the morning, between approximately 07:30 AM and 10:00 AM, the childrenare free to eat the breakfast they brought with them.

To accommodate the children´s need for movement, we go outside with them every day if possible. If needed, we offer them other opportunities for physical activity.

At 12:00 PM, the children meet in their group and have lunch in a comfortable atmosphere. Here, the children decide for themselves whether they want to sleep.

Following this, they can pursue their play interests according to their individual needs. The two - year-old children decide for themselves whether they want to sleep.

The afternoon ist specifically designed to offer a family-like atmosphere. The daycare children visit the facility, partyl from 07:30 AM for a child a long day.

This is precisely why we strive to create a cozy atmospere for the children. Most afternoons, we will there for play with the children in the outdoor area, read stories, listen to music, and encourage them. At the same time, there is still room here for targeted small-group activities and working groups. The afternoon end at 04:30 PM.

Basics

A central concern of our institution is putting christian values into practice.

In cooperation with the Religious Education Department of Katholino, we live out our faith in everyday fife through mutual support, love of our neighbours, and an active community in which every child has the right to dignity and respect.

A prerequisite for our educational work is the children entrusted to us feel comfortable and safe in our care. The daycare centre is the first larger community outside the family that your child experiences, with izs own rules and opportunities for social interaction.

Our educational work combines a wide variety of pedagogical approaches, including child-centred ans situation-oriented approaches, as well as projects chosen by the children themselves.

This enables us to respond to the individual needs of each culd, the group. and the institution in our everyday kindergarten routine. The diversity of our educational approaches allows us to organise each day in an individual and flexible way.

Teamwork with parents

A cloose cooperation between parents and staff members is the prerequisite for the optimal development of the child.

Since we are a family-supplementing institution, parents and staff members must and should work together cooperatively. The prerequisite for this is close and trusting contact between parents and staff members. For this reason, we actively involve parents and, in addition to the participation opportunities anchored in the child Education Act (KIBIZ), offer them the following activities:

Individual conversation with parents

To create a trusting relationship between parents and pedagogical staff members, a personal conversation is absolutley essential for us, where experiences and questions regarding the child can be exchanged and clarified. The institution offers these conversation at least once a year for parents; furthermore, we are available as needed upon agreement. This does not refer to daily interactions, which we take for granted. The pedagogical staff members are bound by confidentiality regarding the content of conversation.

Thematic Parents Café

Since the diversity of children and families has increased, we cooperate with the Integration Agency North Rhine- Westphalia (NRW)/Caritas and the catholic Marriage, Family, and life Couneling Center. For parents, there are regular offers in the Parent´s Café for intercultural awareness and interreligious understanding, as well as topics regarding partnership, marriage and family. The offers are planned together with the parents.

Hospitation (Classroom Observation/ Shadowing)

To give parents an insight into our daily routine or to offer them the opportuning to observe their child, they can shadow in the facility during the mornigs after scheduling an appointment. A subsequent joint exchange is very imortant to us.

Orientation phase (adaptation) for the "new" children and their parents

We design the setting-in phase individually for the child. This requires that the parents and the primary educator are ready to take as much time for the child as is needed for the settling-in period. Detailed descriptions can be found in our concepts for the different age groups.
