Current information

Introduction/specifics

Our daycare center was built in 1995 in the village-like Cologne district of Fühlingen. It is located in the immediate vicinity of Lake Fühlingen, offering a natural environment.

Our three-group facility cares for a total of 50 children aged one to six. In the individual groups, we accompany children aged approximately 12 months to school age together.

Rooms

From the large, open hallway, the children have direct access to their three group rooms.

Each group has a cozy adjoining room, a washroom, and a small storage room where lots of exciting things are kept. Each group also has its own bedroom where the children can rest and recharge their batteries.

The large windows make the group rooms and adjoining rooms bright, friendly, and full of life.

Everywhere, the children discover areas that invite them to play:

  • A creative area for painting and crafts
  • A construction area for building and experimenting
  • A corner for role-playing games
  • Many other materials that spark curiosity.

Each group has a kitchen with a breakfast table where the children eat together, chat, and start the day.

Our large multipurpose room offers plenty of space for romping, dancing, playing, and celebrating together. It is used by the groups every day, sometimes individually, sometimes all together.

The children also love to use the wide hallway area, where they play movement games, act out little role-plays, and embark on spontaneous adventures that bring everyday life to life.

Outdoor Facilities

Outdoor Area

Our outdoor area offers children diverse, interesting, and challenging opportunities.

They can discover and explore many things!

Our outdoor area can be accessed by each group through a terrace door.

Here, children have the opportunity to use the outdoor play equipment, Bobby cars, tricycles, scooters, barrels, jump ropes, hopper balls, etc.

In addition to a sun-protected sandbox, children will find a large mud play area, various climbing frames, a nest swing, and a hill with a tunnel and slide.

The spaciously designed hill with a slide and crawl tunnel allows children to improve and expand their motor skills and abilities. The tiered hill provides children with a seating option and encourages motor activities.

Children can satisfy their need for movement on fixed equipment such as slides, swings, climbing frames, or climbing beams.

At our fixed water play facility, there is the opportunity to experiment with water and sand. Various sand toys are available to the children as tools. The landscaping of the outdoor area is designed to naturally engage all the senses of the children. Behind and within the shrubs, there are hiding places and retreat opportunities. On a paved path, they have the chance to further practice their motor skills using different vehicles.

A small vegetable bed is cultivated and cared for together with the children.

Daily Schedule

Our day at the facility begins at 7:30 a.m. The children arrive gradually, discover their friends, share their first experiences, and settle into the morning at their own pace. Drop-off time lasts until 9:00 a.m., a phase full of arrivals, greetings, and little moments of reunion.

Then the morning circle begins. Everyone sits together, looks at what the day has in store, and talks about wishes, ideas, and special events. The children experience that they can actively help shape the day.

The morning is colorful and varied: there is crafting, exploring, building, dancing, singing, and discovering things outside. Projects, excursions, and physical activities are playfully integrated into everyday life and lovingly supervised by the educational team.

After lunch together, there is a rest or nap time, which is tailored to each child's needs. Some snuggle up in their beds, others listen to a story, or simply enjoy a moment of quiet.

In the afternoon, there is a small snack and the children start playing freely again. Now is the time for imagination, friendships, adventures, and all the little ideas that make the afternoon come alive.

Pick-up time is between 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. During this time, the children gradually say goodbye and take their experiences home with them.

Food

We place great importance on a balanced diet. Freshly prepared food is delivered to us every day. We have fish once a week and meat once a week, as well as soups and vegetarian meals. It is very important to us to eat with the children in a family-like setting at an appetizingly set table in a calm atmosphere.

Basics

Our educational work is based on the Child Education Act (KiBiz) of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the statutes for Catholic daycare facilities in the archdioceses of Aachen, Essen, Cologne, Münster, and Paderborn. Upon admission, parents receive the statutes together with the brochure “For Your Child – The Catholic Daycare Facility.”

The guiding principle “Help me to do it myself” shapes our daily activities. We support the children in such a way that they can gain their own experiences, develop independence, and actively shape their world. The focus is on cooperation, stimulating all the senses, and respecting the individual needs and developmental stages of each child.

As a Catholic daycare center, religious education is a natural part of our everyday life. We say prayers, sing religious songs, listen to stories from the Bible, and celebrate Christian holidays together. We also maintain regular contact with pastoral workers.

Employee

Our educational team consists of the daycare center management, trained specialists, and support staff.

The team is complemented by a kitchen assistant and a daily helper.

In addition, daycare assistants, FSJ volunteers, and PIA trainees support us in the day-to-day running of the facility.

Qualification

The qualifications of the employees are very diverse. From childcare workers to educators and a special needs teacher, a variety of educational staff are employed at the facility.

Quality Assurance

Our quality assurance comprises various components that contribute to the continuous development of our work. These include:

  • A binding concept that sets out our educational principles
  • Regular parent surveys
  • Transparent complaint management that takes concerns seriously and enables solutions
  • Counseling and support for families and employees
  • Participation, so that children and parents can actively contribute
  • Educational documentation that makes learning and development processes visible
  • Continuous training and further education for the team to stay up to date with the latest developments. These training courses ensure the qualification and professionalism of the staff at the facility.
  • A diverse team of employees who contribute different perspectives and skills.
  • Because the training of qualified specialists is very important to us, we are happy to offer interested students internships at our facility.
  • We work closely with the technical colleges for social pedagogy responsible for training educators and childcare workers.
  • Regular case discussions and weekly team meetings are held at our facility to ensure the high quality of our work.
  • In addition, management conferences are held regularly with the specialist advisors. These give managers the opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss important educational topics.
  • Concept days are also held during the nursery year to reflect on, plan, and rethink the educational work and its objectives.

Cooperations

As a family center, our goal is to provide individual support to families in challenging situations and to give them access to appropriate assistance.

We are supported in this by numerous cooperation partners who enrich our network with their expertise and special services for parents and children. For example, the family counseling center on Arnold-von-Siegen-Straße offers consultation hours directly on our premises every first Tuesday of the month.

The Catholic Education Center in Cologne complements our services with parenting courses, educational theme nights, and popular parent-child groups. This gives families whose children do not attend our daycare center the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas.

In addition, we work closely with our parish of St. Pankratius ‘Am Worringer Bruch’ and its various groups.

We also work closely with our partner institution St. Pankratius in Cologne-Worringen, thereby strengthening exchange and joint work.

Teamwork with school

Daycare centers and elementary schools share responsibility for providing children with the best possible support. Both institutions ensure close cooperation by exchanging information about educational content, methods, and concepts. The transition from daycare to elementary school is designed to help children find their bearings, gain confidence, and make the most of new opportunities for development.

Teamwork with parents

As parents, you are experts when it comes to your children. We want to work with you to accompany and support your child in their development. To ensure that this is successful, open communication based on trust between parents and educators is very important and a fundamental prerequisite for our educational approach.

Informal chats are very important in this regard and give us the opportunity to gain insight into the different family situations. During development meetings, we take sufficient time for an in-depth discussion about your child's developmental stage. This also provides an opportunity to discuss personal concerns in detail.

In order to make everyday life transparent for parents, the facility offers a variety of services:

  • Display case
  • Information boards in the entrance area and in the group rooms
  • Parent evenings
  • Letters to parents
  • Photos from everyday life
  • Flyers
  • Information via the parent app
  • Information on the website
  • Instagram
  • Visits by appointment

One way to actively participate is to join the parents' council, which is elected by the parents. The parents' council represents the interests of the parents vis-à-vis the educational staff working at the facility and the operator. They are informed by the operator and/or management about everything essential concerning the daycare center. We are very happy when the parents' council also supports us in planning and organizing parties and activities.

In addition, you have the opportunity to join our support association. The support association assists the facility with new purchases and celebrations.

Specifics

At our daycare center, children learn many different things, from exploring and discovering to painting, building, and playing. A particular focus is on religious education. It accompanies us every day: in small rituals, in songs, in stories, and in moments when we talk together about life and faith.

It is important to us that all children experience how valuable they are. That is why we pay close attention to treating each other with love, respect, and appreciation.

Preschool education begins on the first day of kindergarten. But in the last year, special experiences await our “big kids.” Once a week, the Maxi children meet for exciting activities, discussions, or small projects. We also go on discovery tours together: for example, to the fire department, the police station, the WDR television station, or special places in Cologne.

Projects

At our daycare center, projects are based on the children's ideas and questions. Together, we discover topics, do research, make crafts, experiment, and go on little excursions. The children help decide what interests them, making learning lively, exciting, and very close to their world.

Parental Interviews

At the beginning of the kindergarten year, we ask parents about their childcare needs and set the childcare hours accordingly for the following kindergarten year. Closing times are set once a year in consultation with the parents' council. In addition, a satisfaction survey for the family center is conducted regularly.
