Introduction/specifics

At our St. Maternus Catholic daycare centre, we look after children between the ages of one and six in three groups. We offer an all-round child-friendly environment with a particularly large, natural outdoor area and a wide range of activities. The daycare centre, which has been in existence since 1928, is constantly evolving. For example, we have been inclusive since the 2021/22 daycare year and thus also offer more children with (potential) disabilities care with us. We are therefore delighted to be able to organise a day at the daycare centre for every child and their family. Everyone is welcome in our kindergarten - just as they are. In line with our guiding principle, we support the children in being who they are and becoming who they can be.

Staff qualifications are based on the regulation on the principles of qualification and staffing ratios (KiBiz staffing regulation). Our specialist staff are assigned to the three groups, but also work across all groups.

Quality Assurance

Quality assurance measures:

  • Further education and training for educational staff
  • Concept days
  • Continuous evaluation of the concept in dialogue with the educational team.
  • Evaluation measures for parent satisfaction
  • Cooperation with technical colleges and universities of applied sciences
  • Supervision of interns (student and block internships)
  • Training of professional interns and PIA interns
  • Regular, professional exchange between the pedagogical team in meetings and in everyday life
  • Regular team supervision.

Cooperations

As a family centre in association with the other three kindergartens of the parish in Rodenkirchen, Weiß and Sürth, we are certified as a Catholic Family Centre and Family Centre NRW. Together in the network of the parish and with the cooperation partners, families are offered education and counselling (adapted to their needs) on site.

Teamwork with school

The St. Maternus daycare centre works closely with the KGS Grüngürtelschule and the EMAnuel School in Cologne Rodenkirchen. Topics such as the organisation of the transition from daycare centre to primary school are discussed at regular meetings. The daycare centre management, the school management, the educational team at the daycare centre and the teaching staff are in professional contact with each other.

Teamwork with parents

Close cooperation between parents and educational staff is a prerequisite for good educational work: parents are the experts in the family and the educational staff are the experts in the daycare centre. Through continuous communication between the professionals and the parents, we create a close educational partnership in order to jointly and sustainably support the child's development.
